Success Stories

The Sacramento Crisis Nurseries are critical support systems that provide very versatile services for parents in need. Parents come to the Nurseries, each with their own unique crisis, looking for guidance, resources and encouragement while their children are cared for in a loving, nurturing environment
Xavier, a 3 year old boy, arrived after a visit with his doctor who diagnosed a fractured femur and put him in a full body cast. His mother was homeless, unable to provide a stable environment and was consumed with feelings of inadequacy and guilt. While the Nursery staff nursed Xavier back to health, Mom worked with her Case Manager at the Nursery and was able to provide stable housing upon his release.

Amber, a 2 year old girl, came to the Nursery with methamphetamine in her system, had a vocabulary of six words, ate no solid food, would only drink milk out of a bottle, and used head banging as a method of self-soothing. After her extended 60 day stay, she was eating finger foods, had increased her vocabulary to 75% of the norm for her age and had improved gross and fine motor skills. In foster care, Amber regressed initially but has recovered and continues to thrive.
